Long question:

My daughter is 6 and a half weeks and has bad colic and also, I think, reflux. She is quite sick after feeds, and has the acidic milk smell. She is on Aptemil Easy Digest with Dentanox. We use the Tommee Tippee Anti-colic Plus bottles (with medium flow teat due to thicker formula). GP has prescribed her Gavison for the reflux, and pharmacist said to lay of Dentanox. We've tried it today, but with the Gaviscon, her formula is now sooo thick she can't even get it easily with the 'x' teats. I did ask about him prescribing the lactose free Cow and Gate, but he said better to change what you add to the milk than change the milk itself.

Just now it has taken her an hour to drink 2oz.

Do we:

switch to normal Aptemil with the Gaviscon?

switch to normal Aptemil with coleaf, in case the sickness is due to the colic?

stick with Easy Digest and Dentanox and scotch the Gaviscon?

give her the Gaviscon with just a bit of milk and the rest of the milk after?

push GP to prescribe lactose free formula?

I'm so confused...

Hi MrsY, sorry to hear you're having such a bad time. I didn't want to read and run but I'm afraid I don't have any advice.

Personally, I would try the Gaviscon with a bit of milk and then maybe a separate feed after and see how you get on. But I have no experience of this, so that's just the option I would choose from your list, rather than spend money on other new things.

Good luck anyway!!

dairy intolerant perhaps ? ask doc for some hypo allergenic to try? You can buy it from chemist if he won't prescribe

Tricky one

DD had v bad colic and we treated her with colief (was still bf)

Later found out that she was allergic to dairy so got her onto a dairy free formula (neocate).

I don't know anything about reflux though.

Sorry - not much help.

I do feel however that you might want to get a second opinion re: lacto free C&G - am not clear why its better to stick with one formula with an medicinal additive than try a different formula?

Thanks - I didn't fully understand that either, Missis, maybe he thinks her system is used to the formula by now...

She had the 3oz of the formula/Gaviscon mix, and then I made up 4oz of just formula, but she only had an ounce. I think all the chopping and changing has messed up her sucking reflex, she just didn't seem to know what to do - is this likely or am I being hormonal and irrational!
