comfort them.

Mind you, 4-6 weeks is a huge growth spurt time for babies and they'll feed more to stimulate more milk.

it took me ages to tell the difference between my baby comfort sucking and feeding! We tried a dummy and she seemed to have a love/hate relationship with it. It was sort of good when she would take it, but we had to keep popping it back in her mouth every 5 mins. She's now 13 weeks, found her thumb 2 weeks ago and life is sooo much nicer - she now falls asleep all by herself with a minimum of fuss for all her naps. Now I'm onto worrying about the damage she can do to her teeth!

Tried a dummy, neither baby took to it. Washed finger and gave finger to suck. This was more successful with DH (bigger fingers maybe?) After a few more weeks, one found his thumb, sucked until he was two, then stopped. The other just got less sucky.

we did the finger sucking thing for a bit as well, but realised how ridiculous it was after spending a whole night with my hand over the side of the Moses basket, and also how much more hygienic to give a sterilised dummy.
