Hi there,
have been happily bottle feeding DD since day 1 as i couldnt breast feed. She's always been a good feeder, and currently has 7oz of the hunngry Baby formula, 5 feeds a day. All was going well until the last couple of days where she is screaming when the bottle goes in her mouth, spitting it out, almost gagging, amnd pushing bottle away. im barely managing to get 3oz down her, and even thats a complete battle. Soemone said it could be teething but she's absolutely fine at all other times, excpet when i try and put the bottle in. Tried leaving her until she gets really hungry, incase she just didnt want as much, even left her for 6 hours- and this still happened. This has only been in the last 3 days or so, and im being patient, thinking it might just be an 'off' couple of days but im starting to worry now. I have heard her tummy making funny gulping noises during the feed so may be this is linked? she's never had any issues with putting on weight etc and is perfectly healthy...any ideas anyone???

Hi

Have you changed the teats recently? Maybe the flow is too quick...

2cats2many · 17/03/2009 17:56

My ds did this about a month ago. Lots of people said it could be teething, etc. It turns out he had tonsilitis and was really quite sick. We ended up taking him to the hospital and it only cleared up after a course of anti-biotics.

It might be worth taking her to the doctors to eliminate that possibility.

she seems ok in herself, i dont think she seems ill but im taking her to clinic to be weighed tomorrow so will ask then, oh that must have been scary having to go into hspital.

good idea about the teats, i have changed to No2 medium flow as i thought the hungry baby formulka would be too thick for the no.1 teats - maybe its that. i will try going back to No.1 teats and see what happens.
Thanks

If you think no.1 teat is too small you could try vari flow ones...

Emmanj - did you get a solution to this problem? It sounds exactly the problem we are currently having with 20 week old who has been feeding fine until the last 2 weeks! Using medium flow teats but have been for some time now without a problem. Tried variflow but had same problem

Emmanj - i'm with you, having exactly the same problem with my DD (13 weeks old).. going to try going back to No.1 teats and see if that helps.

I am having the same issue with my 15 week old. He has never refused the bottle and I am using the same nibble I have always used. I want him to eat! He is perfectly happy and not fussy at all until he sees the nibble coming towards his mouth. If anyone has ideas!! HELP
