i have been up since 4 in agony. excuse typing as am using one hand to hold left boob motionless. am breastfeeding as normal 2-3 feeds a day. went to bed after feeding him as normal and have woken up with horrible pain in left boob. no lumps, redness or shininess. no fever, etc. was hopeful that was early preg symptom til i realised that is just one side. i cant take ibuprofen as am in 2ww, what do I do? Am going to try hot flannel then cold flannel...ouch...help!

that should be hot, pump, cold

I would probably have a go with some massage just to see if there is any hidden blockage there. So warm compress or warm bath, massage towards nipple and maybe try some feeding or pumping afterwards. Then try some cool compresses. The only thing I would add to what you've said is that the hot flannel stage might be more effective if it was immersion in water as hot flannels lose their temperature quickly.
Did you sleep on it perhaps? Can you think of anything that might have happened? Same shape as it usually is?

I cant pump...lost it. ds just woken and doesn't really want to feed(he had an odd 4am one)and i cant bear to touch it. Am in agony. have tried light massage but it nearly made me scream. dont know...could have slept funnily on it, i suppose. DS now worried as mummy crying. argh.

If light massage was really that sore I think you need to consider popping to the doctors. What does you day look like?
I'm guessing hand expression is out of the question. I would try taking some paracetamol and try and try massage in the shower in about 40 minutes.
It was fine at 4am?

no...it woke me up. will have to go to dr i guess. cant believe i've misplaced TWO pumps. thank you

It sounds no fun
Hope it is sorted soon and ds can at least be persuaded to feed as that might help.

It could be a blockage - I don't always get redness / fever at first. If it is, I was told very firmly that I shouldn't use cold compresses for blockages as this will have a constricting effect which makes things worse. Fine for engorgement but not for blockages.
So now, whenever I get blocked up, I pop a heat pad in my bra and combine that with massaging / draining the breast and drinking plenty of fluids.
Hope you feel better soon.

I now feel worse. Can't get into dr. DS is teething and sinking his teeth into that side for some reason. Feel rotten, achy and tired. Am sure that it will be mastitis soon. How very dangerous is ibuprofen if you're very newly preggers? Dont want to do anything silly, but I can't even pick up my son.

Sorry you are no better.
I don't know about ibuprofen. You could try NHS direct. I think if you are about to come down with full-blown mastitis you are entitled to some out-of-hours care. What does your surgery offer? NHS direct could tell you that too.
Have you managed to feed fully on that side and get it drained?

You need to see a doctor this evening, for adive on controlling your temperature and treating the infection especially asyou are pregnant.

Really, this evening. Don't wait.
