dd2 is 8 days old and seems ravenous

she was weighed at 5 days old and had only lost 2 oz from birthweight (she ws 9.1), weeing and pooing loads but I am suddenly worried she's more hungry than there's milk....keep trying to express a drop of milk at end of feed for sore nipples and there's often nothing coming out

normal?

God, you wouldn't believe I've done this twice before would you? have forgotten everything!

dinny, all sounds normal. Many women don't get a drop of milk by expressing - and babies do not ever 'empty' the breast.

It sounds to me as if you should be delighted everything is going so well

(though get some help for the sore nipps won't you?)

PlumBumMum · 09/03/2009 18:05

Don't worry dinny I was always crap at expressing, bit better with an electric pump, but I never filled up the same as I would if dc had fed

As tiktok say just look after that sore one

dinny · 09/03/2009 20:41

thanks Tiktok and Plum

tiktok, I have been doing that biologoical nuturing position and nipples seem to be getting better - think it can really do the trick?

Dinny....wow!!! Congratulations

I've not been on MN as much so missed any announcement.

The sore nipples aside, it sounds like she knows exactly what she should be doing and is getting lots of milk.

I remember DD being like this; she had regained her birthweight by about 9 days postnatal and was permanently attached. It settled down though.

Have you got some lansinoh or similar for those sore nips? I have some lansinoh I could send you if you like.....fb me

Or have you seen someone regarding positioning and attachment? BFC, HV, MW, baby cafe?

dinny · 10/03/2009 15:29

thanks lovey!

she is gorgeous! and just had a really good feed - I thnk I have to get her to latch on when she's crying else she doesn't open her mouth enough

she's quite serene (for now!) so have to keep her waiting so she cries! still, if it's to save the pain of bloody nipples!

I have sme Lansinoh, but if you have some going spare I wouldn't say no! I haven't been on the fb thread for ages - can you send me the name of it? Dinny x

not sure how to link it dinny as it's a round robin message. If you set your fb preferences to receive emails you should get notified when someone has responded to the thread....at least I think that's how it works.

I've passed on your good news though; I hope that's OK.

I'm glad things are better with the painful boobs and that they keep getting better. I found that even tiny changes in positioning can cause painful latching so worth making sure everything is spot on before trying to latch her on.

email me your address and I'll send you the lansinoh. I've got some spare breast pads as well that I just didn't need. My email is daisybump at yahoo dot co dot uk
