I have been bf my 21 week old with no real problems till the last couple of days. Today feeding on the left side has been increasingly painful, and tonight it was excruciating and still is very painful 10 mins after feeding.

About a week ago I noticed the left nipple was a bit sore, and that one of the knobbly bits (technical term?!) was white. The colour returned by the next day, but it was still a little tender. The pain is a sort of combination of sharp pain and bruised pain, and it feels as though it is inside the breast as well as on the nipple.

Can anyone help? I don't know what has gone wrong but I don't feel I can feed on that side with it being so painful. She is feeding every 2 hours through the night, so am a bit worried about just doing it on one side.

Thank you guys. I have now seen a bf counsellor and established that it was a bleb, a little blister of dried milk. Weird. I've popped it out (eeuuw) and corrected our feeding position and am hoping that the bruising will now go down!

Thanks for that completelyabsolutely - I had read about Reynauds, but it isn't that as the nipples don't go white all over, just the odd white spot.

It sounds horrible, poor you!

Glad you got it sorted, bf counsellor are the best the one I saw knew straight away what the problem was after 20 weeks of being told I had thrush by GP and HV, neither of whom thought to tell me about the existence of the bf counsellor.

Glad you got it sorted and that it was something nice and simple I do remember this happening now - thanks for the reminder!
