Underwired nursing bras - desperate !

Hello,

Now I know the advice is not to have underwires during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but I'm a big girl (in both senses) and as long as I have a properly fitting bra I'm willing to take on the risk. I am about to (hopefully) start bfing for the second time when DC2 arrives and I just can't face having my breasts hanging round my waist again for the next 6-12 months.

So does anyone know where at all I can get an underwired nursing bra that will go up to something like a 36J ? I have seen a couple of styles that do have drop cups and underwires, but they stopped at about a G cup which is just not going to work for me.

Any ideas ?

Anita make up to a 36H in underwires? They're the only ones I know of, though, I'm sorry.

It might be worth trying the Anita in 36H - it sounds like you are a similar size to me and I found them very comfortable partly because they are quite stretchy (still supportive).

I wore (properly fitted)underwired bras throughout pregnancy and the Anita underwired bras whilst breastfeeding dd for 21 months with no problems whatsoever.

Good luck!

Bravissimo have a reasonable range of nursing bras for bigger women (like me). I've never worn non-wired bras except when bf but have no problems with the support from the ones I got there. They are very helpful in the shops but also give good advice about fitting on their website.

Having received a 34G tankini this morning I can recommend their swimwear too!

i had a royce non-underwire and it gave better shape than underwire ever did.

I'd recommend the Anita underwired one too (I'm a 38G). Before I found it I wasted a shed load of money on non-wired ones I that made my boobs trail along the floor in a depressing old lady way. I got mine from Figleaves.com IIRR and my boobs are pretty much at the level I would like them to be at now

undercoverellie · 03/03/2009 01:58

Oh fishie... it was the royce ones I had last time... I had all the colours and lived in them for a year.. and I ended up hating them so much I just can't face putting one on again...

I will give the Anita a go though..

... and I am already a big Bravissimo fan, I'll be getting my pre-birth measure there in the next couple of weeks !

Thank you all for your help.

As long as your bra fits really well it is fine to have an underwire. Why not get measured up and get yourself some normal bras and then convert them to nursing bras using these -
www.motherwearuk.com/page23.htm

or if you have any nursing bras left over from DC1 you can just cut the clips of and use those to convert your normal bras.

I would totally recommend the freya from bravissimo. It's really supportive. The emily lace is pretty but mot as supportive.

The royce ones from NCT are OK but I don't think I have the right size so it rayes second to the bravissimo. However the NCT do have advisors so you may find one locally that would do a fitting for you.

I had breastfeeding bras fitted at Bravissimo and although not underwired I thought they were excellent support. With DS2 I was fitted at debenhams and they were great too. I had a mixture of royce and freya. I was a 32H/J whilst breastfeeding.

trixymalixy · 03/03/2009 20:52

I had an Anita bfing bra.

I bought it after 6 months of bfing as I had had enough of the hideous non-wired bras. It instantly made me feel and look about a stone lighter!!

hi there,
bravissimo are great. i have worn an unwired bra through out pregnancy and two years of breastfeeding just make sure it fits really well and check your boobs all the time.

sorry this is probable covered in other post but didn't have time to read them all.
