Breastfeeding in art

Strange request I know but I am hoping to find some sort of artistic representation of breastfeeding - print or perhaps sculpture. Does anyone know where I might find something?

Oh yes, seen that site before, it's nice

Not art as such but how cute is this?

Here is the sculpture in the V & A. It is v lovely.

If you put "Madonna and Child breastfeeding" into google images you'll find loads.

Try the National Gallery catalogue

www.nationalgalleryimages.co.uk

key 'breastfeeding' into the search engine and it brings up 24. My personal favourite is the one by Lorenzo di Credi. Even if the boob is in completely the wrong place- totally non-naturalistic- the baby is sat on the cutest little cushion!

One of those paintings which comes up (Origin of the Milky Way, Tintoretto) is even the current 'Painting of the Month' on the National Gallery website.

I have a lovely Picasso poster of a breastfeeding dyad (did you know a mother and baby were called that, nope? neither did I till I read the BfN leaflet on thrush - v. good by the way). It's lovely but traditional so all eyes, mouths and boobs are where you would expect them to be. I don't know the history of the piece.

Years ago I saw a picture in the National Gallery in Edinburgh of a woman breastfeeding an old man. I think it was a biblical subject. I guess that's not the sort of thing you're looking for?

Oh yes - that's a famous picture.

It's a portrayal of a myth - the woman is breastfeeding her father, who's being starved to death in prison. Her act of daughterly devotion and generosity was immortalised in several paintings.

We had a discussion on it a while back on this board.

My favourite bf pic is this one:

hicarumba!

It's so blatent and frankly (cough) sexy! Wonder what the 'bf is alright as long as it's discrete' sector of the population would make of it.
