I used a canesten pessary last night, 500mg of clotrimazole. Assumed ok when breastfeeding but so tired should have checked with doc. Anyone know if it is ok? Bit worried now.

here you go

Not absorbed through skin - so therefore not absorbed into bm. As always there is the "consult a dr dissclaimer...but as it is topical I think it is fine. They are even suggesting it is fine used on nipples as long as it is not applied immediately before a feed.

thanks SMS. That's the 1% cream so hoping pessary the same.

Pessary will be the same. Clotrimazole topical is not designed to be absorbed as it is supposed to stay on the skin to treat the fungus which is on the surface.

brilliant. thankyou.

and here's the evdience

Clotrimazole is also used from birth I think to treat nappy thrush - so it isn't intrinsically dangerouse for them (although obviously we are talking about different routes of absorbtion).
