BF and inverted nipples

I am 31+3 and planning to BF. Prior to getting pg both my nipples were inverted but since about 12 weeks one has popped out but the other has stayed put. I have tried using one of those avent nipplete things without alot of success. Has anyone successfully managed to BF with an inverted nipple?

I saw Lansinoh have made a similar device to the avent one has anyone tried this?

I had one partilly inverted nipple. under the guidance of my MW i used a nipple shield when feeding DS2 for the 1st couple of days. this was just enough time for him to work out what to do and for my nipple to draw itself out.

i have heard that using shields can interfere with breastfeeding so would discuss it with an expert first but i only needed to use it for about a week.

DS2 is 26 weeks on tuesday and is a total boob monster

hi - i breastfeed with one partialy inverted nipple and another quite inverted. Your baby will get used to giving a little suck, your nipple will pop out and it will be fine! (I was also worried about this, but the weight of the milk alone was enough to push out the nipples!) It did take some working out to get my dd to latch, but i had a midwife help me with this, so just ask for help. what might help as well is if you use an expresser, as this will draw out the nipple - you can do this just before you breastfeed and your nipple will be out. I would be careful of nipple shields, i used them when my nipples were hurting, but my dd didnt get as much milk and i just ended up with a hungry baby. i did use them a few times when needed, but i would be careful about over using (get proper advice on this, mine is about my own experience, not factual, just what i surmised!)

Thanks that's really helpful kruger have got an expresser in the cupboard so can use that if necessary.

I have one semi inverted nipple and 1 completely inverted. I tried the nipplette during pregnancy and didn't have any sucess.
after the baby was born I fed just off one boob and expressed off the completely inverted one. I kept trying to get baby attached but kept failing. Tried nipple shields and this didn't work either. however kept trying to attach baby after expressing and eventually at 6 wks of age he got the idea and since then it has been fine. So i would say keep persevering but you may need to express to keep up supply. But it can be done and don't let any rubbish midwives (like mine) tell you that you won't be able to do it. Good luck.

Mine were inverted before having children, it was hard to get the latch right to begin with but they soon popped out. I sometimes used shield for the first few minutes of a feed but found them a real hassle. Otherwise
I occasionally pumped before a feed just to draw the nipple out but it must have only been a handful of times I did that.

It can be harder to get feeding established and it can be more painful to begin with but I am still feeding ds at 14 months so it it certainly possible to bf with inverted nipples

Mine were both inverted. My midwife gave me a syringe type thing to temporarily draw them out prior to feeding. I used nipple shields for a few days too but to be honest if I held my nipple between my 2 fingers to mirror the shape of his mouth, it worked better. They soon pop out with all that sucking!
