Is 9 month old getting enough BF?

My DS is nearly 9 months old. He is BF and eating solids well although I am BLW so not putting too much pressure on getting lots of food down him - relying on BF as main source of nutrition. He has always been 50% on the charts.

I am working 3 days a week when I usually express the equivalent of 2 cups of milk for him. However, recently the milk supply in one of my boobs has really tailed off. This means I will be giving him 1 cup during the day not two. He feeds once in evening, about once during the night, and sometimes once in the morning. Is this going to be okay - i.e. enough BF? Can I carry on feeding from one breast!!!?

I don't know, but I am bumping in the hope that someone like tictok (sp?) or hunker etc see this.

I would say that generally, ime, if a baby is growing, is active and looks healthy, has lots of wet nappies etc, then there's not much wrong.

But I am not an expert in bf.

To get your milk flowing again, I think the advice is to get him to feed more, or to express as often as you can.

Try Kelly Mom (not on commission honest!!)

Try taking some galactalogues (sp???) eg fenugreek, eat some oats.

Probably TikTok will be along soon with more knowledgeable advice.

You can feed with only one boob - my friend is - I guess your supply will catch up if he needs it.

My 9.5mo dropped down to 2 big feeds (7am and 6pm). The mid-afternoon feed was pushing closer and closer to dinner and he seemed less fussed about it. I tried to wean him onto formula at that time, starting with that feed. He refused the formula but then just stopped demanding a feed at all at that time. I was really worried about it, but he just didn't seem interested. My ability to express also became non-existent around that time. It all coincided with a big leap up in his solids intake (BLW like yours). Could this be what is going on with your DS?

I was really worried about my supply but he doesn't seem dissatisfied so I think it's holding up okay. Since then he has learnt to crawl, wave, point, and there has been a big development in his language skills (both speaking and understanding). Each day I also try to give him cows milk with cereal and a yoghurt and cheese grated on everything! That way I don't worry about his calcium intake so much. So at 11mo I'm now finally relaxing about it!

As hecate says, as long as your DS seems fine then I wouldn't worry about his milk intake.

Thanks for that very reassuring. He does seem really well and happy. He is just about 9 months and his eating is a little unpredictable but you are right he is getting a lot more down these days - his poos seem like the poos of a solid-eater if you know what I mean! and he eats a lot of yoghurt. So I hope you are right HolidaysQueen.

You know your milk supply is just altering to your childs needs. Unlike formuila milk breast milk changes all the time and its not just about volume and what you express isn't a true guide to what your baby gets just do whatever your baby wants and it'll be fine
