Will missing one feed affect my supply?

I'm due to go to a concert which is 2 hours away from my home in June. My dd will be 13 months by then and it would involve me not being there for her bf before bed. I won't really be able to pump, although I maybe could when I got home at around midnight. Would this affect my supply?

I would say, ime, no problem. By 13 months my ds was feeding am & pm but sometimes got the pm feed from a bottle if I was going out. I'd stopped expressing by then.

Sometimes if he was upset or not feeling well he'd ask for extra feeds during the day and there was always milk there for him.

I'd also stopped feeling engorged if I skipped a feed by that point so no problems with that either.

Enjoy your concert!

I don't think it will

It really shouldn't be a problem at all, supply is pretty stable by 13 months.

Enjoy your concert!

Thank you - that's reassuring.

I can miss feeds now at 9.5 months with no ill effects - by then you should be fine.

I would say the problem wouldnt be the supply but the bedtime routine - will she accept ebm/ being put down without a bf etc - this might need practising first.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/02/2009 09:29

Gosh no, no problem to miss a feed or two by that stage.

Enjoy the concert .

Thank you! Yes, the bed time routine might be interupted. DH will just have to cope! She can have cows milk by then can't she?

Yip, cows milk is fine. She might not like it though, has she had it before? If not it would be well worth getting her used to it in advance (or just leaving a bottle of EBM).

June is so far away. I bf both my ds's and wasted so much energy about the forthcoming events interupting feeding - when the time came it was never a problem. I even managed 2 nights in hospital with appendicitis when ds2 was 6mo and bf quickly re-established when i got home. You'll be fine and DO NOT waste any more of your very precious energy worrying about it.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 20/02/2009 20:53

No way. Enjoy!

13 mths!!!

I thought this was going to be someone in the 1st few months - and even then I was going to say 'you'll be fine'.

I went back to work full-time when DS1 (and DS2 after that) was 3 mths old, stopped pumping after 6mths with DS2, and never pumped with DS1.

Hope you have a good time.
