i have noticed that formula is not eligable for club card points. is this to incourage breastfeeding. i have emailed them to ask but have no reply.

I fhtey give clubcard points it's seen as 'promoting' that product, this might lead to more women not breastfeeding.

AnarchyAuntSaysRomanceIsDead · 18/02/2009 13:12

It is because retailers are not allowed to offer any kind of promotional or financial incentive on formula sales.

More here

GrapefruitMoon · 18/02/2009 13:12

Yes I think they are not allowed to do anything that could be seen as an incentive to bottle-feed. I think it is the same at Boots. But points for follow-on formula may be allowed.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/02/2009 13:12

No shops give any kind of points or incentives on formula. You can't redeem points for it either. I think it is to do with not encouraging ff but someone will be along soon I'm sure who knows the legal bit!

weebump · 18/02/2009 13:13

Yes, as far as I know there are laws to do with 'promoting' formula. No ads, no discounts, no points. Follow on milk is a different category, though.

pud1 · 18/02/2009 13:13

Well, the law bans promotions of both products. It's not a comparison, just a statement of fact.

pud1 · 18/02/2009 13:21

i am calling the law makers tossers. i support breastfeeding fully but thing this is going too far

OP posts:
AnarchyAuntSaysRomanceIsDead · 18/02/2009 13:23

Where would you have the line drawn then?

Its better to have a blanket ban on all promotion of formula, than to have loopholes that the companies can and will exploit to their full advantage. They already break the law as it stands!

pud1 · 18/02/2009 13:25

so why can they advertise it.

i really find this interesting. maybe i am wrong but i would put alcohol in the ban before formula.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 18/02/2009 13:27

they can't advertise infant formula.

AnarchyAuntSaysRomanceIsDead · 18/02/2009 13:27

They can't advertise it!

ShowOfHands · 18/02/2009 13:28

infant formula isn't advertised.

You're making the mistake of comparing the two. It's merely incidental that they're protected by the same laws.

midnightexpress · 18/02/2009 13:29

The adverts you have seen will be for follow-on milk for over 12m not for baby milk. They are carefully disguised so that you might nt notice.
