What size bra for breastfeeding?

Being 38 weeks I am trying to buy a bra for breastfeeding. Should I buy the size I am right now or do your ribs move in quickly after the birth? And what cup size?

go somewhere good like mothercare and M & S to get measured up and they will tell you what size you will need.

As an ex m&s bra advisor(10 years ago)we would advise you to go up a cup size & keep the back size. I would go & get measured now though as the bra you are wearing may not be the correct size.

I was measured at a specialist maternity shop at 38 weeks and they fitted me in a 34G, when I was at the time wearing a 38DD/E. After my milk came in I measured myself and concluded that I was actually a 36E and bought a Mothercare bra in this size which fits fine. Tbh the 34G also fits fine so I would suggest buying just oneor two bras beforehand and then get more after the birth when you can get accurate measurements. A good tip is to buy one ordinary breastfeeding bra and one sleepbra - the sleepbra will be more flexible size-wise and as you are unlikely to be going out in the first few days you can wear it during the day as well.

The best bras ever whilst breastfeeding are the sports bras from ASDA they are only 5 quid and are so comfortable,they are all cotton, not underwired but still hold your boobs up ! I think that they go up to a 42E and they do black and white.

John Lewis were brilliant - they measured me at about 38 weeks or so and said if they did not fit after milk coming in to just bring them back. I then bought a couple of bras from them and used that sizing to buy some at mothercare etc when the babe had been born.

Great. Thanks. I now have a couple of mothercare breastfeeding and sleep bras so I am sorted for the short term! As they are so plain I was thinking of splashing some cash on a nice fancy one. I suppose it will be a bit further down the line before I start thinking beyond the essentials of just getting the feeding to be successful at all!

I have to say that I find nursing bras a pain in the t**s! I can never fasten/unfasten them with one hand. I have always found ordinary sports bras better, just pull the cup down and pull it back up afterwards.

Definitely get yourself measured. I thought I was wearing the right size bra but was SO wrong. I think it contributed to the horribel painful experience that was breastfeedimg (until I got the rigth size bra and all became better )

i got measured for nursing bras at 38+ weeks. i went up 2 cup sizes when my milk was in full bloom, so my first 2 nursing bras did me no good.. definitely get measured some place reputable. i went to Contessa as the local M&S measured me too small. good luck though. (once you have your proper size, figleaves.com has good nursing bras reasonable)
