Is 11oz too much in one feed??

I am b/f my twins, but they have a bottle of formula to go to bed with. Dts always wakes up 1st about 5am, but is fine to go till 7am.

Last night he still wanted more after his 8oz bottle, and he took all in all - 11oz!!!! He is only 16.5 weeks.

Is this too much?

And where can I get bigger bottles than a 9oz size?

I wouldn't worry about it being too much - DS was like that too before he was weaned. the HV said to switch him to follow on but I really didn't see the point and just left him on SMA gold. have only ever seen one bottle bigger than 9 oz - but can't for the life of me remember the make I'm afraid.

Avent do one called a Magnum. Not sure how many oz it takes but I have seen them in Mothercare World. HTH

Avent do one that is 11oz - although I have never seen it in shops - but as the previous post says perhaps do them in Mothercare.

Perhaps your babe(s) is just going through a growth spurt? My dd went through a phase of wanting more so I moved her to the hungrier type of formula, then she started leaving loads so I moved her back to the first milk. She then never finished her feeds for ages.

Then at 23 weeks she was never satisifed so I gave her a 7oz feed, still hungry so as I had just done her bottles gave her another 7oz feed just to see how hungry she was - scoffed another 5oz - the little madam. I took this as a sign to start weaning at 24 weeks.

Messing about with different types of formula isn't going to be applicable if you are exclusively breastfeeding but may be an option if you are mixed feeding. I wouldn't necessarily start weaning at 16.5 weeks - I would try other options first - but you know your babes.

By the way, huge gold star for bf twins up to now - I only managed 10 weeks with one - well envious!

my dd has taken up to 12 ounces in one sitting - it always seemed to be the bottle before bed that was the largest one but it did help to see her a bit longer through the night. I just used to top up the bottle from another bottle I had in the fridge. I also used to keep a spare bottle of cooled boiled water in the fridge too just in case I needed to make up a bit extra - that way I wasnt wasting formula.

ds4 has 9-11oz in his last bottle before bed most nights, greedy pig! he's almost 4 months, been on solids for nearly a month, but does weigh 19lbs so due to his size probably needs it.
