Getting a good latch with gigantic aureole?

I find it really hard to know if my 5 day old is getting enough of a mouthful, as the aureole is so big...

Does anyone have any tips? My nipples are sore and have a red dry and cracked oval going across them. CMW took one look and winced and said the latch can't be right, but when she put her on, it seemed the same as when I did it.

Think the bad latch is contributing to madam being so windy, which makes things difficult, especially at 3am!

Any advice gratefully received...

If your aureole is big it can't all fit in. You should not see much aureole below the bottom lip. It is ok to have some above the top lip. Make sure your baby's bottom lip is curled down well. How do I describe it: take your bottom lip between thumb and finger and pull it down to your chin. That is what should happen with baby's bottom lip. You can help by gently pulling it down.

Sounds like you would do well to have a bfc see you feed and check your latch.
