19 month old never satisfied

I have always BF my 19mo, and apart from a rocky start, it has gone brilliantly. I always thought I would BF for a year, but her dairy allergy made me continue (and I'm glad it did, as I do enjoy it). BUT... for the last couple of weeks or so, she often just wants to feed and feed and feed. I only feed her first thing and before bed, but the feeds can take 40 minutes and even then she will be crying for 'More milk'. I often end up finishing the feed because she is starting to chew on me or because I have to get up to get ready for work!!

I don't know if she is genuinely still in need of milk, or if she just wants to be close to me. Has anyone else had this problem? Will it get back to being nice and easy?

I was really dtermined to BF until she's 2, as this would avoid having to use formula (I'm very lazy), but I'm not sure how much more I can take of this. But how easy would it be to wean her anyway? Please help.

You can give cow's milk at 12 months (perhaps not if she has a dairy allergy?) You don;t need to use formula - if she cannot take cow;s milk then whatever the doctor recommended as an alternative.

Try giving her milk in a cup while reading her a story and see if that helps. You may not have that much milk if you are feeding only twice a day? I fed DS till he was 14 months for the last few months when I was back at work just at night and first thing then he went right onto cow's milk from a cup.

She can't go on to cow's milk, so the alternative to BF would have to be some kind of special formula (any other milks are not nutrionally adequate at this age).

I don't think it's a problem with the amount of milk. She seems quite happy when she's feeding.

Anyone else got any ideas/been through the same thing? It does upset me when she cries for me, but I don't know what to do.
