Frozen EBM goes lumpy when thawed

I have a stash of expressed milk in the freezer as back-up but the last couple of times that I've thawed some, it's gone bitty, even lumpy. Does anyone know why and how I can stop this happening?

normal, I would say! Mine looks better after it's been warmed!

Just shake it up a bit and it will be fine!

I had/am having the same problem. Do you find it blocks the hole in the teat? I think it's just the cream separating out, I usually taste it if it does this just to be sure it's ok.

DP (who does the bottle feed) says that it mixes better if it's shaken really well when it's just defrosted and before it's warmed.

Yes - dh said that the last bottle he gave got a blocked teat and ds gave up drinking (ds doesn't like bottles!). I will just try more shaking and warming next time but glad to know this is pretty common.

Don't shake it too vigourously though! I'm sure I read somewhere that shaking it too hard breaks down the structure of the amino acids or something so I've always just swirled it around to mix it. the fat should mix in ok when it is gently heated.
