bf 8 month old refusing bottle, feeding every 3 hours and bit me tonight - cold turkey ?

am really fed up. 2 children in quick succession- fell pregnant whilst feeding the first_ has meant i have been pregnant or brestfeeding for 3 years. dd2 was ill early on then had colic till 3 months and reflux till 6 months. stuck out the breast feeding little and often and holding her upright after feeding for 6 months whilst also having a toddler who did not sleep through. am now starting to hate brestfeeding which is 3 or 4 times at night and nothing in the day ( not interested or bites !) and when she bit me tonight and drew blood i felt it was just the time to stop. as she wont take a bottle or even let dh settle her at night ( not that he tries often) it will be cold turkey tonight. can anyone give me any good reason why i should try to continue ? she is not interested at all in breat feeding during the day unless we are in a pitch black room and she is sleepy, and wont eat until mid morning as she is so stuffed from her marathon feeds at night she is not hungry. obvioously we have things the wrong way round. i was going to stick to just dh settleing tonight and formula and not go in but after reading a few threads we will probably just end up replacing bottle for boob and still keep getting up. any advice or comments would be most welcome. I have not slept more than a 4 hour strech in 3 years so am a bit desperate. Thanks

Have no advice my 10 mo still feeds 3 hourly at night and refuses a bottle but bumping for you

No great advice but I want to be supportive. don't feel bad about stopping breasdtfeeding, it sounds like it's 'time' for you.

Cold turkey will be the way forward. she may sleep longer with formula, if she takes it. but babies don't usually starve themselves.

Good luck. my ds (7months) is going to nursery next week all day for 2 days and has so far only taken 1oz from a bottle!!!

the weird thing is although i hate it i feel really emotional about giving up. bf dd1 till 11 months and was told to stop by my ob/gyn due to medical history. absolutely didn't want to as i loved feeding her - she is a different character altogether though. this one much more feisty but lovely and a nightmare at the same time IYKWIM

Hi

I went cold turkey with my DD (same age and for exactly the same reasons) 3 weeks ago. It took 4 days which was hard but things have really improved.

Not sure how to do links but I had a thread about it maybe 3-4 weeks ago called 'Anyone tried baby Whisperer's cold Turkey' or some such.I outlined what we did etc.

Good luck! And above all trust your instincts, you know your baby better than anyone else.{smile]

Just found it, dated 18/1

Not sure about cold turkey myself, especially if you want to continue bf, which it sounds like you do,I cant do links but if you google dr jay gordon he has a way of night weaning without having to stop bf fully.
Could dh settle her for a while at night? extending the time between her feeds, so if she feeds 3 hourly now get dh to settle her then feed after 4 hours then 5 etc?
Is she teething? dd feeds loads when teething

is Marmmummy out there ? Have gotten her to take a bottle and am expressing to relieve the considerable engorgement ( she must have been getting a ton of breast milk given what she is consuming in formula)

did you stop bf or have you re introduced it and are mixed feeding ? only ask as have given her two small feeds ( when desperate)during this process and it hasn't stopped her taking the bottle. don't want to risk reversing all the hard work and sleepless nights if it will upset the apple cart. any advice much appreciated. thanks
