Blood in milk when expressing

I was expressing for DD today when DH noticed my milk was pink. When I looked everytime the pump 'sucked' there was blood coming out of the hole bit where I normally get a jet of milk from. It is not sore just when DD latched on like a hoover. I have a general ache in my breast but no lumps, bumps or cuts.

Sorry for the very un-technical description!

I have only had this when I've had a cracked nipple. If you can't see anything wrong on the surface then I would go and see your GP.

It can sometimes happen with lots of different causes. I had it when ds had banged my boob really hard by accident. Might be worth calling one of the bf helplines to talk things over with someone? As pp says, if you're worried then consult your GP.

Somewhere in the back of my brain I'm sure I read something somewhere that blood in milk isn't uncommon, but I can't remember from where and haven't got my Breastfeeding Answer Book to hand to check that, sorry.
