Cows milk at 6 months?

Why are we advised to wait until 1 year for cows milk? I've had to stop bf DS at 6 months due to unforseen circumstances and I really don't want to give formula as I'm quite precious about avoiding 'processed' foods. But looks like I only have the options of formula or cows milk. I have no milk allergy history in the family, which should I give?

I think it is because babies digestive systems can't cope with cows milk, it is designed for baby cows after all. I wouldn't have considered baby milk as processed but I guess it is.I would go with the formula.

You shouldn't give cows milk as a main drink before 12 months. It isnt nutritionally balanced for a baby below that age. I think it's the protein....there isnt enough in cows milk.
Formula is cows milk. I wouldnt really call it a processed food!

kidcreole formula is hugely processed to get it from simple cows milk to a product that babies can digest and all sorts of things added to it.

I don't think you have any option but to go with a suitable formula jocesar, but Hipp do an organic one that you might feel better about giving?

cows milk straight from the fridge is only suitable for small amounts in cooking or in yogurts between six months and a year.

Not wanting to pry, but are you sure you won't be able to carry on with BFing? The reason I'm asking is that women are often advised to stop due to medications, but in a lot of cases, it isn't necessary as there is usually an alternative that means BFing can continue. I'm taking antidepressants and still BFing for example.
