Tips on how to stop 6 month old biting?

DS has had his teeth about a week, and he's already become a biter!

Does anyone have any tips on how to stop such a little baby biting? Not really sure he's ready to be told off, does he know the difference yet?

Any tips much appreciated!

I got a nursing necklace from here, I think it just distracts them onto something else.

It works for me, I still use it now, (dd is 11 months) otherwise she is a bit of a pincher/scrather.

My method is not recommended but it works.

Picture the scene, 5 month old baby nursing at sleepy mummy's breast, dark room, 3 am, all peaceful.
Dd1 clamps down with teeth
Peaceful mummy gets woken up and shouts 'mother that hurts'
DD1 bursts into shocked scared tears.
Never does it again.

It worked on DD2 as well.

Why do they always bite at night!

NB am not in habit of swearing at my chilrden....HV advised saying a firm NO next time to get same result

I had the same issue as ds's first 2 teeth came in over xmas - but now a few weeks on i've noticed it's calmed down. Not had a nip from him in a good few days. Am thinking of getting nursing necklace to keep his little hands busy though

My boy is pretty strong, what are they made from? No danger that they would break is there?
