Help - does anyone's baby have pyloric stenosis or gastric reflux?

following a thread i started earlier here

i decided with the help of jacksmama to start this thread for ideas that could help alleviate the pain my son is going through.

i'm not completely sure if my son has pyloric stenosis or not, but i do know that if this is just reflux it's getting worse by the day, even with the medicine and then upping the dosage.

for the record, the gp are not being very helpful, i've been going almost daily. Yesterday i did cause a scene which did not really do much except result in another appointment for Friday morning.

I've made appointments for cranial osteopathy, but can't be seen before the 4th.

I've made an appointment with a private pediatrician, but he can't see me till tomorrow. I will however be calling a few more times over the next hour or two to see if i can possibly be seen any sooner.

i went to the pediatricians yesterday, they kept us in so they could watch what happened one on one-- well with a nurse with me. they sent us to the portland where they ruled out all sorts of infections. they upped the dosages again, plus gave me baby gaviscon, new prescription only formula (cow milk protein free) i have to take him back in for an ultrasound. they think that if it's not the cow milk protein intolerance then it might be pyloric stenosis, but it usually presents much much much earlier (most common time to present is at 5 weeks)...

thank you all soo much for your help.

the more i think about it, the less convinced i am that it is pyloric stenosis-- anyone have any other ideas on what it could be?

hi again. we are back from the hosp finally!!

i dont want to say your lo DOESNT have Pyloric but he does sound exactly like my ds1 who they did think he had it when he was a few days old. The best way of them showing it is by an ultrasound. that gives an immediate yes or no.. it also shows up on a blood test as i said before. They are various types of med for reflux, some alot stronger than others and sometimes (like both of my ds's) its trial and error finding one that really works. Sorry i knw that doesnt help you but i know exactly how you feel. At least they are trying to help you... trying the formula is a good step..

i just seriously hope it's not pyloric stenosis. i hope it's just a cow milk protein intolerance for a while because they do grow out of that.

they told me to take a break from the hospital today and come back on tuesday if it's the same and asap if anything worse happens.

i also think he is quite old to develop it, im pretty sure its something that is present almost straight away and alot younger. also if they were pretty sure he does have it they wouldve at least given him a blood test or arranged an ultrasound or barium, well they would if they were good doctors IMHO. I hope you dont have too bad a w/w and ds isnt in too much pain. Do make sure you go back if he gets worse or if you think you need a 2nd opinion. x
