Breastfeeding and pregnancy tests

I have 2 children, 14 months apart. I was still breastfeeding dc1 exclusively, including several nighttime feeds, when I conceived dc2, having had no period post partum. I took a pregnancy test when dc1 was about 7 months old, because I was starting to feel nauseous going upstairs and wanted to vomit at the smell of fish, etc, just as I had during my first pregnancy. Obviously, I was already roughly 2 months pregnant at that time, but the test was negative. A scan at the doctor's confirmed the pregnancy.

Fastforward to the present. Dc2 is 6 and a half months old. Until last week she was exclusively breastfed, with nighttime feeds, etc. I have had no period since 2006. And guess what, I have started to feel nauseous and so on again. I have just taken a pregnancy test, and it was negative. Could it be the breastfeeding hormones affecting the result, or is it really negative this time and I am feeling nauseous etc for some other reason? Has anyone else had an experience like this?

breastfeeding won't affect the result.

Maybe you are testing too early; or getting ill?

I would have been roughly 2 months pregnant when I got a negative result last time, that's why I thought about it. Then, I put it down to a duff test.

I hope I'm not coming down with anything! I feel generally ok, it's just a bit of dizziness and nausea, mostly when going up the stairs (just as I had during both my pregnancies).

You can get false negatives for lots of reasons, but breastfeeding hormones will not affect a pregnancy test.

Hmm, perhaps I'll just give it some more time and see if I'm back to normal in a few days.

Nice though it is not having periods, sometimes I wish they would come back just so that I know where I am!
