Burping and Wind Question

My first baby is 2 weeks old and I've been b/f successfully since he was born. Sometimes mid-feed he makes all sorts of grimaces and cries, curls up his legs and goes red in the face and looks like he has trapped wind. Othertimes he's just pooing or does a burp and seems relieved straight after.

Can anyone advise me on the best way to wind my baby during a feed? How long should I wait before continuing to feed him between winding him? All new to me so I feel rather clueless. He's putting on weight so I know he's b/f well. I just hate seeing him in such discomfort and I don't know how to relieve it.

Any advice welcome!

Here's a few positions you can try that worked for us:

Over your shoulder and just rub in little circles.
Sitting upright on your knee and leaning baby slightly to the left.
Lying him over your arm tummy down with his head in your hand and gently bouncing him up and down.

It's really a case of experimenting until you find one that works best for you I think!

Once he's burped I would offer him milk again - he might have made room for more!
