16 week old started waking for night feed!!!

Have 16 week old who has started waking for night feeds. he used to sleep through from 7.30pmish to 6ish but now wakes between 2am-4am, drains a 7oz bottle then back off to sleep. I know it's obviously not a sleep issue but I'm wondering is it normal for a 4 month old to have a growth spurt?? Advice and suggestions please!!!

Very very very normal. lots of threads of '16 weeks growth spurt', '4 month growth spurt', '4 month regression' etc if you want to search for more info.

We had one at exactly 16 weeks, and while I'm fairly sure DS is finished with it, he is now tragically in the habit of waking for a feed and is waking twice after his 10:30pm feed!

Yup, totally utterly normal!

you'd worry if he didn't have growth spurts

The famous four month growth spurt!

Feeding him smaller amounts but much more frequently in the daytime might help but it will pass off by itself in a few days

Thank you V much ladies!! I can do without the 'you'd worry if he didn't have growth spurt' comment. This forum is to help rather than make catty comments.

Hardly catty Sarah, I'm sure it was meant to be reassuring.

Your message was reassuring.

Just want to echo the messages above - am a HV and this is a common time for babies to start waking at night again - it used to be thought of as a sign to start weaning but now it's just accepted that this is what many babies do about this time. They usually settle down again once they've gone through the growth spurt.

Thank you JollyPirate, this is v helpful. At this time would you suggest keeping him on his feeding 3 hourly pattern?

Yes - just go with what he wants - you might find he wants greater quantities until this little growth spurt is over.
