Body mass and ability to go longer between feeds

Pls excuse typos, bl**dy feeding again! I'm getting so fed up with BF, but it's going really well in itself as DS has gained 1lb in his 17 days, + regaining birth weight.

Anyway, after an all night cafe co-sleeping night, DH was telling me that a baby's ability to go longer between feeds is in part to do with their body mass. Anyone know if that's true? Pls tell me there's light at the end of the BF all day and all night tunnel!

so your baby is 17 days old?

it is normal for newborns, breast or bottle fed to feed a lot, more frequently than you could have imagined. their stomachs are the size of a walnut or something equally small

also, when breastfeeding, the supply and demand thing is going on and your breasts need the stimulation , partic. at night when prolactin levels are higher, from your newborn to ensure the supply matches demand.

some people do think that weight has something to do with it, but plenty of bigger babies still wake frequently for feeding

if your DS has regained more than his birthweight, it is going well !

it won;t be like this forever, but the first few weeks, however you feed, are a blur

this too will pass...

my DS is 24 weeks and feeds more than when he was a newborn, so I think it just depends on the baby.

I've heard something like they can sleep through the night when they hit 11 or 12 lbs but we are at 15 lbs and that has yet to happen.

I've heard it too, but think it's bollocks and just something else that women cling on to to give them hope.

Dd was still feeding 9 times a day at 11 months, by which time she was plenty big enough to theoretically space them more.

Ds now 14 weeks and 16 lbs, but still feeds every couple of hours or so during the day (may be more frequent - not really timing tbh).

I love this to be true! but know its not

My DD is 25 weeks and still feeds about every 3 hours. Past few days its been stretching to 4 so fingers crossed it lasts!!

Sadly we still feed 3 hourly during the night too...
Shes 15lbs.

Probably not what you wanted to hear (sorry) but they will strecth feeding times out in thier own time. Some are obviously faster at it than others.

but dont forget all those lovely Growth spurts that mean your back feeding every few hours or so again!
