Lazy feeder!

In hospital Fifi was a brilliant feeder, she lost 30g from her birth weight and had over taken it by 10 days.

Now though she has got lazy. She messes around till I leak then gets the drips! We can spend half an hour messing around before she latches sometimes with her getting frustrated about the lack of milk! It's worse when she's on the right as my left has a very strong let-down so I end up in pain and soaked, I'm trying hard not to keep swapping before she's latched but sometimes it hurts too much.

She's 12 days and 37+3 weeks.

no help but thought I'd bump it for you - have you expressed to relieve the pressure?
Might be an idea to start off expressing to get the let down and then bung her on - I doubt it is the case by now but if her blood sugar is a little bit down she might be too lethargic to suck too well, so starting her off might help. And if it is that, once her blood sugar is up again, she should get back to sucking properly.

Of course this could be the completely wrong advice as it is kinda encouraging her laziness to persist! Depends on whether you think she is getting enough or not, and how much pain your boobs can stand.

good luck!

Just had the NN-MW in and she watched the feeding efforts, she thinks that the crying and fussing is making me let down and she's getting enough through let down alone to not need to latch. Of course in the long run this could be a problem.

She is getting enough as she's now 4lb 12oz, that's 2oz since Monday!

I'm not getting full or pain so much in between feeds, just when she's messing around.
