Breastfeeding and roaccutane

Hi there guys does anybody please know anything about breastfeeding whilst taking this drug?
My dd is 16months old and is taking two feeds a day........
My evil doctors has been nagging me to stop feeding for months now and this looks as if it is his perfect excuse. Grrr.
It is a drug absolutely contra-indicated in pregnancy as it causes birth defects so is powerful stuff......

I've taken this drug myself and it is pretty powerful. I wouldn't be happy about taking it while breastfeeding. Do you have to take it now? Can't it wait until you've stopped feeding?

Have looked in the formulary and it says avoid isotretinoin(roaccutane) in breast feeding.HTH

I have done a search and this does look like one of the very few drugs which is best avoided while breastfeeding...it is very 'lipid soluble' which means it gets into breastmilk at high concentrations. Is there nothing else you could use instead? Seems a shame to wean if you and the baby don't want to....

Your doctor has no right to 'nag' you to stop, or indeed comment at all!

My dr thinks I'm mad for b'feeding for so long.....He is full off cr*p if you ask me.

I was hoping to continue until nipper is 2. But since I was pregnant with her I developed horrific cystic acne which calmed down a bit when I was b'feeding fully but is back with a vengeance and is really painful and scarring. Is affecting my life badly.

The other problem I have is that me and DH are thinking about trying for baby no2 maybe late in the year and I'd be worried about taking it so close to conceiving too.
I guess I just have to weigh up what is best? THanks for your replies though.

I know how awful acne can be, but please, please don't take roaccutane when you're thinking about conceiving, i would personally leave as long as possible between taking a course and conceiving,it really can have an absolutely terrible effect on the foetus. i was given roaccutane when i was 18, and the dermatologist did not want to give it to me if i sexually active because of the risks, even if i was on contraception.

I totally back up what has been said about roaccutane. I had to sign a piece of paper promising not to get pregnant when I was on it. (Would have been a miracle as I wasnt sexually active at the time) I would avoid it for as long as possible esp if you are considering conceiving again soon

However, I do know how you feel about acne as I had it very badly and it did blight my life for a while. Is there nothing else you could use?
