Scientific research links for DH please!

My DH is wanting scientific research into the pros and cons of breastfeeding vs bottlefeeding, as he's fed up with being given assumptions by health visitors etc with no explanation or evidence.

(He's also not interested in the 'psychological benefits' angle as so much psychological research is subjective)

Tiktok - yep, she said (to a severely sleep-deprived first time mum of a prem child just out of hospital) that I was absolutely not allowed to stop breastfeeding until I'd spoken to the counsellor (who was not available for a week).

I went straight to Boots, bought the formula my son had been given once or twice in hospital, and never looked back. I'll give it a go with this baby but he doesn't take to it, I won't lose sleep over it.

Looking back, it probably would have helped if the hospital hadn't added calories to my EBM before giving it to DS, as he was impossible to satisfy after that.

Is part of the problem that the HV you had was so crass that your DH is bucking against whatever a health professional says now? I'm very sorry your HV was so thoughtless - to tell a mother, baldly, she can't stop bfing is outrageous! Did she offer you no support to continue?

I'm sympathetic to your DH's stance, really - it's hard to trust someone's telling you the truth when they've been unsupportive and crap in the past. I hope some of the links on this thread help - but it might be worth exploring why he's so keen not to believe good things about bf.
