Tiktok - credentials

Hi Tiktok

You seem to give really good advice on this forum but I was wondering what your credentials were. There's nothing on your profile page and I'd like to be sure.

OP posts:
NappiesGaloriaInExcelsis · 19/12/2008 19:33

and why should any individual want to justify themselves to you? are you in receipt of advice from this person? do you seek the CV's of every other poster you receive advice from on here? very odd question if you ask me

so come on, whats the back story? whats your agenda? cant abide hidden ones so out with it.

Fillyjonk · 19/12/2008 19:34

surely her credentials are that she gives really good advice? And to her great credit she spends time on here handing it out?

Anyway, no one on here has "credentials", any of us could easily be typing one handed while driving a milk tanker, or worse...

Filly - how did you know that's what I was doing

TipsyFairydifferentID · 19/12/2008 19:39

lol FAQ.
OP, why does it concern you? If it doesn't, then perhaps you should go boil your head?

Fillyjonk · 19/12/2008 19:40

I am in the tanker next to you FAQ

Tiktok openly stated that she is a fully trained NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor on several threads and therefore I feel it is reasonable to repeat that on this post.

2pt4WiseMen · 19/12/2008 19:40

Maybe she's been reading TikToks advice and it contradicts something a HV/GP says and wants to check its not just advice coming from a random person making stuff up - always good to know who you are taking advice from.
Although could have asked in a nicer way of course!

MissChief · 19/12/2008 19:41

fair point, i think. She seems v involved with the NCT so sure she won't mind! Good to be transparent.

Libraloveschristmas1975 · 19/12/2008 19:41

I dunno, maybe the OP has a little bit of a point, unlike legal/employment etc there is no disclaimer on the top of breastfeeding and we have all at one time or another been given duff advice re:breastfeeding. (even tho as my DH reading my laptop over my shoulder has just pointed out a lot of that duff advice is from credited health professionals so maybe credentials aren't always a good thing )

Lizum · 19/12/2008 19:44

I'm not asking to be insulting. There's so much conflicting advice about breastfeeding, even from professionals, that I'd like to know whether Tiktok knows what they're talking about and following, taking with a pinch of salt or plain ignoring.

Have you heard of Dr Gillian McKeith? She's not a doctor by any means and sometimes gives advice which goes against the medical profession which could be dangerous but is generally just plain wrong. I just want to check that Tiktok's not another "Dr" McKeith.

Apologies. Tiktok has never claimed to be a doctor or anything like that but is a bfc I believe with the nct and has been for a while. She keeps up to date with all of the changing advice as well and applies common sense to her recommendations too.

Lizum · 19/12/2008 19:47

P.S. I've added my professional status on my profile and if you want to double check my chartership status with the engineering council, you're quite welcome to (obviously you'd need my real name which I'll give if you email me.)

OP posts:
NappiesGaloriaInExcelsis · 19/12/2008 19:47

oh right, point as explained by pruners taken.
as you were

im a gerumpoy bitch tonight ig nore me

Fillyjonk · 19/12/2008 19:48

Its the sentance "There's nothing on your profile page and I'd like to be sure"

She is giving out advice for free, in her own time.

But ALSO, I don't think breastfeeding is an area where credentials matter much, tbh. the best advice I have had on bfding has been from other mothers, qualified only by experience.

NappiesGaloriaInExcelsis · 19/12/2008 19:49

er, why? what has your prfessional status to do with the price of fish?

Lulumama · 19/12/2008 19:51

i agree with pruners

i think it is really a good thing to ensure that the advice is being given by someone qualified to give it

at the end of the day, anyone can say anything and i can say what my credentials are, but is it proveable?

this is t'internet, and being cautious is a good thing

BUT< tiktok gives such amazing and well researched advice, how could she be anything other than someone worth listening to , regardless of qualificatiosn

some things speak for themsleves

but this is an anonymous forum and if in doubt, seek advice from Real Life Humans

Because why should I ask someone to do something I'm not prepared to do myself and because I've given advice on the ethical living board about energy.

why do you need to know, have you had what you consider to be bad advice?

at the end of the day, tiktok is entitled to her privacy and does not have to prove anything to anyone. i don;t think threads like this are a partic. good idea, singling out one poster for questioning, but obv. something has triggered this question
