Follow on milk.... Whats the difference?

My DD is only approaching 5mths but DH and I were having a conversation about her milk the other day.

We were wondering what the difference between first formula and follow on milk is? Does it change to suit their needs as they grow?
Should we start buying the follow on milk when she gets to 6mths?

Shes been doing great on Aptimal since I stopped expressing.

There isnt much. Its a con as theyre not allowed to advertise normal formula

No it's a bloody scam to get you to use formula well beyond one year old

Absolutely nothing, there is no point whatsoever. It is a ploy from formula manufacturers to get round the advertising ban, because they are allowed to advertise follow on milk but not first milk. DD is 11 months and has been on Aptamil Extra Hungry for most of the time. In the New Year I'll put her onto cows' milk and wave bye bye to formula!

It usually has more added iron (which can be a source of constipation) and is less highly modified than formula milk to be used from birth.

Unlike from birth formula it can be heavily advertised on TV and in glossy parenting magazines with lots of reassuring and frequently rather spurious messages about optimum nutrition.
