hello

looking for some help with an apparently very hungry, exclusively breast fed 3 week old ds

he seems to be constantly hungry between 12pm and 7pm, but will sleep well between 7pm and 6am (waking once or twice for a top up) and appears to feed and sleep normally between 6am and 12pm

any advice much appreciated

first time post so apologies for lack of lingo, abbreviations, acronyms, etc

thanks

like marla says, sounds pretty normal. They have a wee growth spurt at around 3 weeks and the constant feeding is their way of upping your supply to meet their growing demands. It'll settle down once your supply is established at about 6-8 weeks

Meanwhile there is lots of advice on kellymom about all things Breastfeeding.

Congratulations on your DS

there are lots of us on the November post natal club with similar aged babies if you fancy popping in for a chat

It sounds normal and fab that his cluster feeding is in the afternoon/early evening rather than all through the night which all of mine did!

Sounds pretty normal to me too. But it will settle down in a few weeks.

Get comfortable bf in public and try going out for coffee -- it's surprising how much better you feel bf sitting on someone else's sofa staring at someone else's walls

Thanks for your quick and reassuring responses. Good to know I'm not alone.

Im going to go and buy a sling from Mothercare tomorrow. This will help me move around the house and improve my breastfeeding technique so that I can venture out of the house.

Thanks again.

Anna

Definitely a growth spurt. they have them at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 mths. Should settle down in a few days!

anna don't buy a baby bjorn type sling
get either a ring sling or a wrap sling (eg closer, moby, hugabub) which will be comfortable for you both and possible to breastfeed in
they don't usually have them in the stores but easy to buy online

agree with F&Z. stretchy wraps are the way to go
