Period type bleeding but exclusively BF a 6 month old?

I have started to experience some period type bleeding despite still exclusively BF my 6 month. I only noticed it when getting up in the night last night but this morning it is still happening and I'm wondering if this is normal?! I'm not having any cramping and the bleeding although not heavy is not what you would call spotting either.
Has anyone else experienced this?

No personal experience but it is possible to get periods while still bf, so it's possible that it's justyour periods returning..

boogeek · 11/12/2008 10:16

Um...sounds like you've got your period! Sorry

moopymoo · 11/12/2008 10:17

yes mine returned whilst still exclusively bf. That is why it is not a reliable contraception method.

Mine returned 5 weeks after DD birth and I BF for over 2 years

I'm afraid I had a period at 3 months, but haven't had another for over 2 months now

Thanks for the swift replies ladies. Guess it is just my periods returning, gutted!

I have had periods whilst exclusively breast feeding my baby (4 months now)- they are just a few days of light bleeding compared to the nightmare ones I had before but they are def periods as they are right on my cycle and I get all hormonal before them - it's a bit of a bummer really as you could really do without them. Someone posted about this recently on I think it was the chldbirth thread and it seems q a lot of breast feeders do get them.
