LLL's phone number. Saved me and my breasts....x

maretta · 09/12/2008 13:11

Yes, more informatin about how to get help, less patronising posters about bonding and getting your figure back.

BlueCowNowIsLowing · 09/12/2008 13:13

something about it taking a while to 'learn' then is as easy as falling off a bike...

jeee · 09/12/2008 13:13

An admission that it's bloody hard work, hurts like hell... and then you'd feel less of a failure when it's not as easy as the posters say (I did bf 4 children)

LilMatchGirlInVictorianSqualor · 09/12/2008 13:31

We are peer supporters so probably won't put up numbers for other organisations but will have something saying to ask a member of staff to put you in contact with someone.

A lovely picture of a well-latched baby and a mum who is not stripped to the waist but is going about her ordinary daily business!

Bucharest · 09/12/2008 13:35

Yes- proper women doing proper things! Not all soft focus and beatific looking....(obviously not biting on steel bars because of cracked nips either....YKWIM....)

mawbroon · 09/12/2008 21:23

Some pics of older babies and children feeding please.

I mean like 2 and 3 year olds. Most stuff I have seen focuses on younger ones.

Possibly with a comment saying something like "breastfeeding should continue as long as mother and baby are happy with the arrangement" or perhaps no comment at all, just another breastfeeding pic.

mothersmilk · 09/12/2008 21:32

maybe something on the dangers of formula i know its a big ask and a little contovesial but having recently trained as a bfn helper and learnt about just wat does go in to formula(algi fish eyes egg protines ect) and the risks you incur when choosing to feed with it i feel its just as important to educate women on the risks of formula and not just the benifits of breastfeeding we do it with tabacco and alchole

littlelamb · 09/12/2008 21:40

Some pictures of nice non-granny nursing bras! And some pictures that 'normalise' bf, women doing it in restaurans, on the street, etc. I have had a childcare student with me on her mother and baby placement for the past month and when we were in a restaurant last week we were next to a lady who was bf and she had no idea that the lady was doing it! There's no nee dto feel self conscious about doing it in public because most people won't notice. Maybe even some good comebacks to challenge the people who make comments with! (including the spotty teenage oiks who were next to me in Nandos today doing overly exaggerated whispering about me bf ds. Grr ) Pictures of older babies feeding. And actually a mention that at the beginning, they will feed all the time, it may well feel relentless, it will hurt but it does pass

ilovemydog · 09/12/2008 21:45

Where to go for middle of the night advice, and let's face it, that when panic sets in!

Heard there were some videos on You Tube that shows a good latch - perhaps links to this?

BouncingTinsel · 09/12/2008 21:47

Pics of older babies being fed

Fsmily pic - mum bfing, dad with arms around her, supporting her to emphasise the role dads can play in helping mum to breastfeed (i.e. passing her choccie biccies

Numbers for ABM, LLL, NCT.

NCT Reasons to be Proud poster.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/12/2008 21:52

Do you want some pics VS - I have some of DD feeding with a textbook (or should that be textboob) good latch?

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 22:12

A picture of someone NIP where you can't even see what they're doing, just looks like they have a sleepy baby and are talking with friends.

Suggestions of what dad (and extended family) can do to not feel useless or left out. There's a poster at the antenatal clinic of dad ironing and grandmother bringing tea and biscuits I love that! We have a rule, he does everything but feed baby when he's home.

A myth busting information sheet.

notcitrus · 09/12/2008 22:29

Pics of a bunch of women in a cafe, couple of them feeding.
Mention that babies need feeding more than every 3/4 hours. And that larger breasts may need holding.

Some fab ideas here people, thanks.
We will be having the reasons to be proud poster, also like the myth busting sheet.
WMMC, yes please to the pics. We will have Sally Inch's DVD to show but pics will be great, can compare to a picture of what actually happens with the nipple in the mouth so we can explain why nipples shouldn't be sore with the right latch.
mothersmilk, we are BfN too (well, I do my BfN training in Jan, the other lady has already done it).
Also think we'll do something about the size of babies tummy.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 10/12/2008 12:18

You'll have to show us what you do

One myth that I think would help to break is alcohol abstinence. I've heard a lot of women say they wouldn't breastfeed because they've done 9 months without a drink they don't want to go longer. My trainer/ soon to be boss at the PCT where I did my Peer Support course carries on this myth and says that no one knows what units are so it's better to say no alcohol. If you're over the drink drive limit you have the same amount of alcohol in your blood as OJ and if you are so drunk you're at risk of death you still have less than 1%.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 10/12/2008 12:22

I have a picture you can have if you want, I'm feeding Tink in a cafe over looking the Med. She's 15 months old and you can't see anything but because of her size it's obvious what I'm doing.

I've got it on FaceBook, I'll add it to the MN group.

nickytinseltimes · 10/12/2008 12:24

Definitely info about the pain.
And that it is normal to have the kid permenantly attched for the first few weeks.
And that they still need winded - noone told me this!? ANd they can still get colic too. I was told that was nonsense - me and hundreds of others would disagree.

nickytinseltimes · 10/12/2008 12:25

Oh yes, myth busting about the bloody eating/drinking stuff too.

naturalblonde · 10/12/2008 12:29

Definitely pics of women feeding while doing other things, you don't have to be stuck to the sofa for hours. Maybe show how you can have baby in a sling and feed so both hands are free. (I found this a godsend with dd1)

RoseOfTheOrient · 10/12/2008 12:44

NIP photos.
Co-sleeping and feeding at night (photo of mum lying down, half-asleep and still able to feed her baby - no getting up to make bottles)

Also, to show how small an infant's stomach is, have a real walnut on display! (THIS is how small your baby's tummy is, that's why he/she needs feeding little and often)....

(I THINK I read that a newborn's stomach is the size of a walnut...)

fledtoscotland · 10/12/2008 12:57

info about although its natural, both mum & baby need to learn how to do it. also a pic of a mum fully clothed in an everyday environment (not soft lighting) with a baby older than a couple of weeks
