Rose, I'm actually awaiting marbles from medela that show you this but the BfN won't let you use anything that is from a company that sells milk/bottles etc so we are going to replace them with things the same sizes, I think.

older mums breastfeeding

moondog · 10/12/2008 14:49

A reminder that we don't ask adults to go for four hours without a drink or food, so why on earth do we expect a baby to?

(Visited a family member the other day who was trying to get her 5 week premature son to go for four hours like this. It was all I could do, whilst looking at her hefty thighs and rolls of stomach, to stop myself saying 'Shame you don't follow your own advice eh?')

Walnut idea v good.Maybe also compare to adult stomach.

scorpio1 · 10/12/2008 15:04

moondog that info really helped me when i saw you say it on here a while ago

It shouldn't hurt - if it does you need to get help with latching on. So many new mums (myself included) expected it to hurt so put up with poor latching on and sore nips for the first few days until put right by wonderful MW.

pictures of women breastfeeding whilst talking to/being around men.

also pictures of boy babies being fed

pania · 10/12/2008 15:44

Young mothers breastfeeding, because in my (uninformed) opinion they are the group that are less likely to breastfeed, or at least to get breastfeeding help and support.

have sent you a link to online album (sorry for crap typing, feeding two monkreys)

mellyonion · 10/12/2008 17:11

an acknowledgement is a commitment, but one that if you carry on doing it, pays dividends in the end (convenience mostly!)

to see your role in the first few days and weeks as feeder to the baby...get your "kit" around you....food, drink, tv remote, magazine, phone etc...ready BEFORE you start!!!

that once your baby gets better at feeding, they can drop to taking a full feed in a matter of a few minutes, and not the hours that they take in the first few weeks...

a mention about not expressing until your supply is established

and the most important one for me....when the going was getting tough and i felt like giving up through tiredness, hormonalness etc, to wait until the next feed until i made my decision.....by then, an hour had passed and i felt better...

moondog · 10/12/2008 17:37

That's god to know Scorpio.
It really helped me too when my mw said it to me at a time when i felt very tied down and resentful.

Umlellala · 10/12/2008 19:21

Yes,my mum thought ds should be capable of going every four hours but whenI jokingly said, gosh, not sure I can go withoutfood or water for 4 hours! then went 'oh,you're not giving any water?'. Had to tactfully blether on about how advice changes every 5 minsbla bla... But changedher view a bit.

Would echoinfo about how it's ok to feed constantly every hour or so at first.

Pics of different bfing positions-maybe ina sling too?

Umlellala · 10/12/2008 19:22

sorry,my mum said'oh you're not giving water'? (as that's what she did)

TheCrackFox · 10/12/2008 19:34

Pictures of different bf positions would be good. Used to just lie on the sofa, baby feeding, remote control in hand and a cup of tea, bliss.

Ready4anotherCoffee · 10/12/2008 19:35

I have a pic of dd2 feeding in a sling when I first cracked it

deffo pics of feeding while sleeping lying down, poss co-sleeping myths busted.

SamJamsmum · 10/12/2008 19:58

I hope you do show all the numbers. We have 5 national helplines (NHS, NCT, LLL, ABM, BfN) and people really do sometimes need to ring around at certain times of day to find help. I am an ABM bf counsellor but happily pass on all the numbers. And people I work with from other organizations seem to do the same.
The worst thing is when someone is desperate for help and finds no one at the end of the line.

I would use images from the 'Be a star' campaign.

That's a great website. I particularly liked the pic of the toddler breastfeeding upside down

Another vote for up-to-date info about alcohol and meds.
