Hi

Have just put some Hc45 cream (which is 1% hydrocortisone) onto a small patch of dermatitis on my wrist. (so nowhere near where baby actually is...

and then immediately panicked as forgot to ask chemist if safe while feeding. the packet says not to use in pregnancy or on children but no mention of feeding. from what i can glean on internet it seems ok....but does anyone actually know? think i am being paranoid - was a v small amount - but need to check...

answers wd be gratefully received as need to feedbaby in about an hour....

Hi comet

I used betnovate (all over body, so quite alot!) whilst breast feeding both my boys and i'm sure the doc said it was fine.(i can't believe i would have done it otherwise! it's a while a go now..)

I really don't think there is any reason to worry. Especially since it's only a small amount too.

Plus it's only 1%. Betnovate is stronger i'm pretty sure. And both my boys fine

I would not worry at all. If it's bugging you why not give the surgery a quick buzz in the morning. They can leave a message with doc to call you. They are generally really great with stuff concerning babies.

I got hydrocortisone prescribed by doctor a few weeks ago and then was encouraged to use it more by another GP both of whom knew i was breastfeeding. Also had to resort to using it occasionally whilst pregnant - was told by midwife this was ok.

I don't know what other people's opionions on this are but it appears to be a cautious response by the drug companies - in the words of my GP 'they're not exactly likely to be able to do the tests on pregnant/bf mums to prove that thay're safe.'

I use betnovate as well, which is stronger than hydrocortisone, GP said it was fine.
