About to start expressing 4 week old - which pump and which bottles?

I know if I look hard enough this will already have been answered thousands of times (and if you have a link to another thread please post it) but my baby is coming up to 4 weeks and I want to start expressing just so I can have a few hours kip!

Which is the best single electric breastpump without breaking the bank and which are the best bottles to use? A health visitor told me tomy tippee bottles cos they have wide mouth? She doesnt like dummies, she seemed to choke on them so am nervous as to what would work...

Many thanks!

Hi honeymoonmummy I am expressing and I use this Avent one. I have found it really good although I do have to lean quite far forward to make sure the milk goes down into the bottle.

Its quite expensive but IMO its worth it as a non-electric pump would be quite tiring to use.

Also as I am still breastfeeding and only giving one bottle a night I wanted to ensure there was no nipple confusion and that my LO didn't turn into a "lazy" sucker so I bought these BreastFlow bottles. TBH I have no idea if they are better and actually do what they claim but my LO took the bottle straight away (after 5 mins of fussing) and seems to switch from Breast to Bottle quite easily. Again they are quite expensive at £5.49 each from Mothercare.

Hope this helps, although as a first time mum for only 3 weeks perhaps wait for one of the wiser, more experienced ladies to advise too!

Hi there, I totally understand about wanting to sleep more! DH gives a bottle at 11pm and I get 4-5 hours sleep. I have a Medela Swing pump, which is fairly easy to use. It comes with a bottle, but I prefer to use Avent ones because of the wide mouth (easier to clean). In our experience, it's not so much the teat but the milk temperature. We used to give expressed milk at room temperature but found she would drink more if it was slightly warm.

I should be honest and admit that I have now stopped expressing. One evening I only got a little bit and had to supplement with formula. She gulped it down! Lots! Thereafter, we gave both EBM then FF. Eventually, I gave up expressing. Good luck!

Really like Avent Isis pump, did have a Medela electric with dd but it was noisy and pretty impossible to clean. When ds does take bottle (god, how I wish I'd persevered at the beginning) it is a boots own bottle with a MAM teat. Found the Tommee Tippee ones rubbish (I guess the MAM ones are more like what he is used to???!)

Thanks for the advice! I'm worried she won't like breast as much after!!
