Breatsfeeding manners!

Me again! Ok so what with all the feeding DS required yesterday this all came to a bit of a head. For the past couple of weeks he has starting pulling and pinching at my skin, quite hard. He has always been a strong little boy, although he is only 18 and a half weeks. He also bobs on and off, putting himself back on, which sometimes he does not get right. Last night he bit me either side. I pulled him off and told him no, bottom lip went out but both times he found my nipple again before disaster stuck! I know this is all normal. I've seen those breastfeeding necklaces, but I'm not keen really. Has anyone managed to get baby feeding 'nicely'. It is becoming stressful and I really don't want to give up.

I never managed to get ds to feed nicely once he was active. He was always pinching and slapping my chest. If I'd known of the necklaces back them I think I would have got one.
He didn't start biting tho till about 10 no.

It will pass. When he is mucking about just stop the feed and he will soon put 2 and 2 together. Give him your hand to hold when he is feeding. I think the breastfeeding necklace actually sounded like a good idea.

natrually, mears is right, I remember the pinching on the think skin at the top of the bosom when they are about this age

You could also try lying on your side with him on his side also and that way he only has one arm free which you can hold

Flossam, just chiming in with an "I agree with everyone", and also to point out, if he bites, and you pull him off, and say no, if he cries then, that's not a disaster - that's a good thing! If he gets upset right after having bit you, well, he won't bite you again.

I probably sound like the cruelest mum in the world, but really, you want him upset if he's just done something horrid, that's how he learns.

Just been trawling through the threads looking for some advice for biting. My poor nipples are so sore today, it's her latching on and off that does the damage, found some good advice I will use next feed.

DD likes to stick her fingers up my nose and in my mouth whilst feeding!! I try and hold her hand instead but she likes to have a feel around don't know how my necklace hasn't snapped by now either!

my ds still does the fingers in the mouth and up the nose. he also does it when he's tired and cuddling on your lap.

Oh no, my ds is just 12 weeks old and is already doing the bobbing on/off thing - you mean to say they start putting their fingers up your nose too!!!

the bobbing on and off didn't last very long with my ds - a couple of weeks I think - it was just veyr funny to watch. But wait till their nails are like little talons and they get a good bit of boob skin and nip it! ouch!

there's a web site that sells them. Nice strong, dangly necklaces that gives the baby something to play with while bf. On an old thread somewhere.

Floss, DS does this too. Faffs about for most the feed, never just lies there nicely feeding. Constantly pulls and pinches my skin, beats me up basically. And when I don't get my top up quick enough he goes ballistic and starts pulling at it.

But when he has finished feeding and takes himself off and looks at me and smiles . . . I melt

my dd is the same - faffing, pinching, grabbing hair and anything else - my today I really had to laugh as she pulled off my breast, squeezed my nipple and got a squirt of milk in her face - she giggled and carried on!!

I have found some great nursing necklaces from an ebay seller in the USA, and they work a treat. Both babies love them!

My DD plays around so much when feeding I have never had the courage to feed in public as my boobs get exposed frequently. I also get scratched boobs. A couple of weeks ago she clamped her gums on so hard I let out a loud ouch! and made her cry - she never did it again. Now I hold her spare hand and stroke and kiss it while she feeds. During some feeds she breaks off for a play and smile session and I find it really hard not to join in but I try to discourage her. Cows are lucky they only get milked once a day .

flossam - dd2 has started something like this recently. She pushes at by breast - whilst still attached - yikes!! SHe kneads at it and then takes herself off and on the breast as well. Not sure if hte removal is cause she is a bit snotty and need to stop to catch her breath. She has yet to pinch me or bite me. I just hold her hand or let her hold my shirt and that seems to work.
