Told by playground Mum this morning "you're a fool, a glutton for punishment" because I'm bf my 20 day old baby!

She asked how DS2 was sleeping, I said he was feeding a lot at night. She said "oh is your DH doing some of the feeds", so I told her I was bf.

She told me, very strongly, "you're a fool, a glutton for punishment" - I was a bit taken aback but said "I don't think so, its much easier in the long run if you persevere and we both enjoy it"

I'm laughing about it now TBH, can't get worked up, but I did think WTF?!

God she sounds like a savage.

Dreadful place, the school playground.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I must have missed the bit of this conversation where I asked for your opinion."

Or is that too agressive?

Good for you mamag - just think of all the health advantages for you & ds.

What a stupid comment - Ignore her next time

A woman once asked me if I was breastfeeding and I said yes. Her response was "oh dear"

I thought this was quite unusual but that woman sounds like she knows nothing!

equally some folk may 'judge' someone who is bottle feeding a 20 day old

not me you understand!

Kbear · 25/11/2008 20:07

I hope you told her to FARK off in a loud voice

cthea · 25/11/2008 20:12

She was rude. Thinking perhaps she was funny or something, but just stupid and rude.

Personally i rather enjoy my cuddles with my 2 month old at night. I would also not enjoy going downstairs to sort out bottles and stuff. I think you've definitely picked the easier option and she is out of order but in any event its none of her business.

I had this the whole time when BF DD - Mainly from DHs family!! They are crap with BF and none of them have done it, or at least not after they took the baby out of hospital anyway. When I stopped BF at 8 months because i was sufferng badly from morning sickness, MIL said "Oh good, about time too"!!

I think some people say these things because it makes them feel better. Usually because they didn't do it themselves and in some way feel guilty or jealous that someone else has 'made the effort'. I know some people can't or find it difficult to breastfeed, but they're not usually the people dismissing it as a waste of time.
