I have made it through nearly 8 months, but the biting this week is making it impossible. He has the bottom two teeth and the top two have just cut through. Pain. Pain. Pain. He has two more on the way and I can't take it anymore. I have tried watching him, but it comes too quickly. I have taken him off and told him no. I have pushed him into breast. I have made a point of crying and shouting. Nothing is helping. I am giving up tomorrow if it doesn't stop.

it is a bit of a stage and the best approach is to immediately stop the feed and put him down for 5 minutes, then start again, doing this every time he bites.

Have tried the 5 min thing for last 30 minutes. He is getting increasingly upset and biting more. He hasn't eaten solid food for 3 days and I am going mad. Argh. He won't take a bottle of EBM either. Just chews it.

turtle - I haven't been through this (thankfully DS went through his biting phase before he got teeth!) but if you're really that desperate, can you try taking him off and completely ending the feed (maybe for an hour or something) when he bites?

I feel for you as even though I've not been bitten, DS's top teeth rubbed horribly to start with when they were coming through.

Good Luck.

Or try nipple shields?

saved me when ds1 bit hard.

ds1 didn't bite when doing top teeth but they hurt so much he barely ate or fed for 2 weeks - seemed to hurt even to bf.
Maybe your lo will stop biting once the front teeth are properly through? maybe nipple shields till then?
good luck

DS2 is nearly 6 months and got 2 bottom teeth at 4 months - a couple of weeks ago the biting was so bad I was thinking of giving up. I spoke to LLL helpline, and of their recommendations the following helped; going somewhere calm and quiet to feed (even an interesting pic behind DS2 can distract him); making sure latch is secure as they can bite if they feel they are slipping; walking and feeding - particularly good to get a painfree latch on and if they are getting upset; making sure it is a feed he wants (sounds obv but sometimes I was offering the breast when he was agitating for something else); and interestingly, you might find that there is a link between chewing on bottle teats and chewing you! I had a few days of trying to get DS2 to take a formula top up bottle on the advice of a HV. After 3 days of biting and chewing the bottle teat we gave up as by then I realised that what he really needed was more feeds from me, BUT it was at this point that all our biting and nipping probs started..

HTH, and good luck
