She's 15 months, cough and cold. Can't breathe through nose, tried to feed for half hour but can't stay on. Can't even stay on long enough for letdwn. Please help what do I do? Tried saline drops but just dribbled out again.

try a nasal aspirator to gently clear her nostrils... try the drops again, sit in a hot steamy bathroom with her on your lap, and let her breathe in the steam , then try again... can you just keep her at the breast so she feels comforted and can keep trying>?

poor DD and poor you

blinks · 12/11/2008 19:12

tis rotten. can you express and give it to her in a sippy cup?

CharCharGabor · 12/11/2008 19:15

Will try bathroom in a sec, haven't got an aspirator. Have tried saline a few times but no luck. She's been at the breast for 45 mins now with no luck. She's exhausted but can't get enough comfort to drift off and I'm on my own tonight. Thanks.

you could gently suck the snot out? keeping her upright in steam might well just loosen and drain her nose enough to let her feed. poor mite, have also got a poorly DD< tis the pits

CharCharGabor · 12/11/2008 19:21

its the actual bfing not the milk that she wants blinks so she wouldn't settle for that, but thanks anyway. Sorry your dd is sick too lulumama, it is horrible. am heading upstairs now hope it works

try gently massaging the sides of her nose, stroking from corner of her eye downwards.ot

have you got any karvol, or snufflebabes in the house? or vicks (but only use the teeniest amount as it's a bit strong.)

LackaDAISYcal · 12/11/2008 19:47

keep trying with the saline as well; you want to try and get her sneezing to clear some of the blockage.

CharCharGabor · 12/11/2008 19:53

just tried that daisy, it cleared loads of gunk but still can't feed for long. it sounded a bit better but she just can't stay on. haven't got any karvol or anything but I was just saying today that i should get some. typical. do you think a quick walk would help in the sling?

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 12/11/2008 20:00

the fresh air will probably help and if she is in the sling she will be warm enough.

poor thing; it's horrible when they are this poorly.

can you get to a shop this evening? or is there anyone who can get some for you and drop it in?

CharCharGabor · 12/11/2008 20:06

Will try the walk then. Just rang my dad and asked for advice and he said just don't feed her Yeah if it was that simple I wouldn't still be here! noone to go to shop, dp is at work. thankyou.

We walked to Asda and got some Vicks. Cleared her nose within 10 minutes and she finally fed and fell asleep I am so relieved. Have bought myself a nice cake too Thanks for the advice everyone.
