red patch with black centre above nipple

I've noticed a red area above my nipple with a black centre this morning when bathing. My dd is 8 mo and I've never had any problems or pain before (luckily!).
The only thing I can think of is that the past couple of nights I have fed her lying down on that side. So maybe her latch wasn't right. I was drowsy so didn't really notice! Is that what might have caused this?

thanks for putting my mind at rest!

how big is the black centre? Is it scabby or smooth? Could it be a plugged pore (like a blackhead)
Bruiselike?
how about some pictures

thanks for your reply needmorecoffee
the black centre bit is smooth, about the size of a pea. it is like a bruise yes.
think I will pass on uploading pics of my nipple!!

Is it like a lovebite? I had this when I didn't notice a sleepy latch wasn't right. it fades quite quickly.

that sounds like a blood blister from a bad latch. Does it feel bruised? Doesn't sound like a bloackage as that tends to feel rough and scabby.
If it is then it will go away but if it gets sorer or the redness extends and things feel worse might be worth getting it checked.
dd did something similar to me when she was a few days old. Being my first I had no idea she wasn't on the nipple and she sucked a whole new nipple for herself! It was black/blue and the size of my real nipple. She had one powerful suck!

I had a couple of lovebite type bruises from missed latching on during the night. I don't think it happened without me noticing though!

thanks all - I guess it is a bit like a lovebite. haven't had one of those for a while!
glad to hear it will go on its own. I'll keep an eye on it anyway.
