Cow's milk question

Dd is only 7 months but just thinking ahead slightly.

When you switch from FF to cow's milk at 12 months, do you literally give it when you would normally give formula i.e. bedtime etc.

Or do you give it as a drink during the day?

Or am I over thinking this and it really doesn't matter??

I gave it when DD would normally have Formula which in her case was morning and night, mostly she drank water during the day.
