White spot on nipple

I am an EBFer (2.5 yrs!) and have developed white spot on nipple. I think it's a blocked duct as have had before and ususally the go of own accord. Unfortunately this one has stayed and my nipple is now really sore. The white spot has got bigger and protrudes about and has a hard scabby edge. Not helped by the fact I tried to pop it with a needle! Only made it bleed.

I tried squeezing it and still won't disappear and now even more sore!

What can I do. I only do 2 bfs a day but couldn't bear a feed on there tonight so didn't offer. I know it won't help if it's a blocked duct but sooooooooo sore.

NB - there is no redness in breast so defo not a mastitis thing.

I had this and did manage to get rid whilst sat in a hot bath, massage and clean needle (i had poured boiling water over the needle prior to getting in the bath).
Not sure what else can help - am sure others are posting as I am typing this! Good luck.

Have you tried to "ping" it out? I had one once that I took into the shower. Before I got in I had a good peer, managed to get a fingernail under the egde, popped out the plug - and squirted milk across the bathroom...

I think a needle will only help if its a milk blister rather than an actual plug, which is what mine was.

Can't get it out! It's really quite hard and protrudes a long way. It's yellowy so think it's old milk backed up. It rubs against bra and is still sore.

How on earth can I get rid. I tried squeezing but didn't work. I will have to put LO on tonight and she if she can do it! Although it bloody hurts when she feeds from that one.

Have you seen this thread? There were a LOT of suggestions on how to shift a blocked duct.

Lo made no difference. It's a hard, stubborn, almost wart like thing now. I'm fed up. Nipple feels as bad as it did in early days - all sore and mashed up.

Would your LO be prepared to feed more often? I know that may bring other issues, but small children really are the best suction device known to man when it comes to this kind of thing. (Although that said I did see a couple of ladies on another thread swear they got their DPs to shift their blockages!)

Ugh - don't think I'd ask DP. Too weird for me!

LO only does 2 feeds a day so don't really want to encourage more. She is a milk monster tbh! She was on there for a long time tonight to no avail.I also noticed another white spot coming up unfortunately. Not as sore today though as missed out last nights feed on that side so it had a rest and put on tons of lanison.

I wonder if my bra is causing a problem as no longer using nursing bras. Hmmmm.

Anyway thanks for asking, just have to hope it goes of it's own accord. I have to say though, the thought of stopping bfing is becoming more attractive as the days goes on!

Know what you mean - don't think I'd ask DH either, but then if I couldn't shift it any other way and it was bad enough I might change my mind .

Please do keep an eye on it, as blocked ducts that don't resolve do sometimes turn very nasty (mastitis or abcess type nasty). This page on KellyMom compares causes, symptoms and treatment for blocked ducts and mastitis. This page looks at milk blisters.

I can sympathise with not wanting to encourage your DD (mine's 18 months and still feeds 2-6 times/night, which is wearing more than a little thin now), but as a means to an end it may turn out to be the lesser of the evils... Tricky.

Please keep a good eye on it - I have had a blockage in my nip since I had a blocked duct for about 12-18 hours a couple of months back. Just recovering from the most awful mastitis which I'm sure must be linked to both as the mastitis was in exactly the same area as the original blockage, but the blockage in my nipple persists and it is still there. Sometimes has felt like feeding through a shard of glass - even before the mastitis.

That said I had a much more benign milk blister on the other nipple after I breastfed my first son which frankyl persisted until DS2 was born a year after I finished BFing DS1. It would just fill and I'd gently squeeze the milk out and it would do it all again. Finally resolved when DS2 born and milk came in. I did attend a breast clinic with it - totally unconcerned and no actual help whatsoever!

Just please look after it - this weekend I have felt the most ill I remember feeling ever...!

Thanks both. Have had mastitis about 3 times, in the early days so tuned into when it's coming. HOPEFULLY won't get it this time! I know what you mean miss polly - it is the worst!
