Formula advice - organics vs rest

I am shortly to become a mum for the first time and though I intend to breast feed I'm going to buy some formula as a back up just in case. Can anyone recommend a brand. What should I look for? I'm into organics and interested in Hipp as it seems to be the only organic milk on the market, but is that a good idea for babies? What are the benefits? It doesn't appear to have all the things in that the other brands have and I don't want my baby to miss out if those things are important?

friend uses Hipps. She wouldn't drink non-organic milk herself with all its anyi-biotics and pus filled cows so why give it to the babies?

I use hipp. It's the only generally available organic one.

I don't know what "things" you mean but hipp is nutritionally complete and suitable from birth - they couldn't sell it as such if it wasn't.

Yep, they all have the same nutrients.
Organic formula=organic milk, so if that is important to you, then Hipp is hte one to use.

At the risk of sounding like a militant breastfeeder (I'm really not), I would advise you not to have formula in as a backup as it makes it easier to give up on BF IYKWIM when the going gets tough (and it can do).

You are obviously concerned that your baby doesn't miss out on anything, and you know that breastfeeding will give your baby everything FF can and more

I'm currently pg with DC3 and intend to BF - have no formula in the house, but I do have the numbers of the BF helplines programmed into my mobile - if I struggle, I'll reach for the phone, not the formula.

I think its good to have a tin of formula lying around. I intended to bf number 4 just as I did with the other 3. She bf for 3 months then was given an epilepsy med that reduced her muscle tone and she could no longer bf, in the middle of the night. Thank god for the tin and a hard teat.
