Website to check whether prescriptions are compatible with BF?

Sorry, I know it's been mentioned before and I am just being lazy but can anyone renind me of the website that has this info?

Or alternatively, does anyone know if any malarial prophylactics are ok to take whilst BF? They'll be needed for Uganda so am assuming it will need to be something like Malerone but don't know if that passes into BM.

The Breastfeeding Network's site is here, but doesn't seem to cover antimalarials. You can call their Drugs in Breastmilk Helpline on 0844 412 4665, though.

The CDC say this:

MEDICATIONS
Breastfeeding mothers should take the usual adult dose of the antimalarial drug appropriate for the itinerary. Nursing mothers with infants weighing less than 5 kg (approximately 11 pounds) should not take atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone) for prophylaxis. Data are limited on the use of doxycycline during breastfeeding; however, most experts consider its short-term use compatible with breastfeeding. Primaquine is contraindicated during lactation unless both the mother and breastfed infant have normal G6PD levels. It is critical to note that breastfed infants require their own antimalarial medication if traveling to an endemic area. Mother?s milk does not provide malaria protection, even when the mother is taking an adequate medication and dose for herself.

Thanks. To give you a bit of background....I met a woman today who said that she was sad as she was going to have to stop BF her 10-day old DD soon as she is going to live in Uganda for a year, and needs to take anti-malarials. I told her I'd find some info and text it to her, but I'm not sure what to do now.

It's not a one-off trip and her baby is well below the 5kg limit. It seems ridiculous for her to stop now as buying formula in Uganda will no doubt be expensive as well as potentially unhygienic if it's not made uo correctly.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Best thing for her would be to ring the Drugline - maybe she could take doxycycline to start with and switch to Malarone once the baby is bigger ?

Would def be the best thing for the baby to be bf all the time they are in Uganda
