one tiny dry green poo in 3 days! Why?

he (5 weeks) went 2 days with no poo but lots of wee, then this morning had a tiny green poo in his nappy, it was really dry and had stuck to his bumcheeks! i was told too much foremilk could be responsible - how do i remedy this? do you think i'm swapping boobs too soon? i have reduced the formula by quite a lot the last few days as well - could that be linked?

I don't know but am going to bump you up to the top in the hope a really good BF specialist comes along.

Have you called the NCT BF Hotline, I think they are really good?

Does he seem well, and content?

Lots of wee is a good thing. How much have you reduced formula by?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 17/10/2008 14:53

he seems very content today, but quite sleepy which is unusual in the day for him, but we have been out for ages. he's feeding anf farting! but no more poo as yet.

If he's content and making lots of wee, he's probably fine. The foremilk/hindmilk thing is a bit of a red herring. His guts are probably a bit disturbed by the shift away from mixed feeding (good thing to do, though - from what I know, most women who give formula before 6 weeks end up stopping bf earlier than they wanted to). I'd give it some time.

thank you! formula was only ever meant to be temp, and as he gained well last 2 weeks and seems satisfied i've cut down from 6 x 60mls daily to 2-3, which i will probbly continue with indefibnitely as i find it a great help jusy once or twice a day to have dh do a feed! he did another poo - bigger but still green.

6 x 60mls to 2 or 3 is quite a big cut, so I guess it's not surprising he's a bit funny. The good gain is after you made the cut? Or before?

Lots of wet nappies is a good sign, anyway.

Is he doing any cluster feeding? That really helps with supply.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 17/10/2008 19:37

before. but he used to be unsatisfied after a good bf, but now he seems satisfied. i've been working on increasing supply for ages

The colour means nothing. Well, just faster digestive transit or something.

I predict an up-the-back poo is brewing and will be with you sometime inconvenient. Are you planning a trip out tomorrow by any chance?

god yeah - a wedding at which i am a bridesmaid!! lol

oh yeah, it will happen during the vows

must say to prevent something similar happening during dh's ordination I gave ds a small dose of calpol the night before (sooths sore tummy and sweetener does the rest) and it worked, he did it during the bishop's speech the night before instead , just managed to get him into theporch before it got too bad

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 18/10/2008 08:12

LOL! That's perfect. Don't let the bride hold him until he's had the up the back poo !
