Expressing at night

Hi I have a 15 week old baby who has started sleeping through the night for about a month now - it is usually hit and miss but more nights than not she does! Initially i got up to express because my boobs were so sore and big and now they are not so sore but i have been still getting up to express ( i can also express off a lot of milk at this time compared to tiny amounts at other times!) but as you can imagine I am still very tired. My worry is that if i stop my milk supply will reduce and so if my lo wakes in night which still happens maybe 1-2 times a week I won't have anything to give her. Also I have been told that weaning may unsettle her so her night time pattern may alter when I start that? Any advice?

I'm also curious to hear what experienced mums have to say so I'm bumping for you... (And I'm jealous that your DC usually sleeps through!)

maybe i'm wrong but doesn't your body produce enough for the baby? so if baby doesn't need a night feed that's normal, and so you don't need to express? also i think once your supply is established missing one feed won't affect supply?

thanks for that - I am sure it won't affect it - I am just worried as don't want her to start waking and then screaming as hungry!!

I don't want to put a damper on it, but I wouldn't get too used to her sleeping through if I were you! She might carry on doing it - but they are inclined to go through phases of sleeping through followed by phases of waking. I would stock pile sleep rather than milk! If she wakes to be fed the milk will come.

thats what i thought! didn't want to get used to it thats why i was expressing but if she demands it - will my milk supply increase? will enjoy he sleep while it lasts!

bf is supply and demand and your boobs are never empty. if she starts feeding again at night your boobs will catch up very quickly. get the sleep!
