My DS is 5 days old and I'm paranoid that I'm not burping him properly and that he's going to choke when I lay him down to sleep.
The problem is that he doesn't always burp after a feed (I'm breast-feeding). I'm using a method shown to me by the health visitor where I support him from the front and he leans forward while I rub or tap his back. The midwife said I shouldn't lay him down until he has burped, but the problem is that this does sometimes produce a burp but not all the time. So my question is, how long do I carry on doing this for if he doesn't burp? Presumably after a while it's ineffectual?
Once he was a bit sick while I was asleep and I'm now so scared of him choking that I've sat up for hours and hours in the night too scared to lay him down. Consequently, I'm exhausted. Can anyone advise? Thank you.
